Baramulla, Aug 02 (JKT): Nearly 375 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been filed, and 651 individuals involved in drug peddling have been apprehended in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.
Notably, under the ongoing Drug-Free Baramulla campaign, local police have made strides in combating the drug menace.
Since the campaign’s launch in January 2023, authorities have registered 375 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and apprehended 651 individuals involved in drug peddling.
Among those arrested are 122 hardcore peddlers booked under the stringent PITNDPS (Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
In a series of successful operations, police have seized contraband with an estimated value of Rs. 86.5 crores. Additionally, law enforcement has attached properties worth Rs. 10 crores belonging to 20 notorious drug peddlers. These assets include residential houses, shopping complexes, vehicles, and land plots, reflecting the scale of their operations.
Lastly, police report a noticeable reduction in heroin abuse cases in Baramulla, attributing the decline to their relentless efforts and community support.
